Western Terrace
Here we see the same gods as on the esatern terrace, also sitting on their thrones. Relief stela of the royal families of Persia and Macedonia are found on this terrace. There are also individual stela showing King Antiochus shaking hands with goddess Commagene Thyche, Apollo Mithras, Zeus Orosmades and Heracles Artagnes.
The Stone block of 6,56 feet hing and 8.20 feet wide shows a lion walking to the right is the oldest horoscope ever found. The lion has a crescent on his neck and several stars on the body. To the upper side of the block there are three larger stars symbolising Mars, Venus and Jupiter. Archaeologists and astrologists have researched to find out the origin of this 2000 years old horoscope. This relief bears the date July 7, 62 BC when Antiochus was crowned.
The western terrace also has the statue of Commagene Tyche, the goddess of fertility, who gives her name to the kingdom and supports what King Antiochus says in his inscription.
The eagle is the holy creature and the symbol of the Commagene Kingdom and also the Messenger of gods that represents heavenly power.
On the western terrace the most magnificent scenery is at sunset. Here again, watching sunset gives special and deep imressions to watchers. The best season for watching is again from April to October.
